On June 30th, the Department of College Students of the Ministry of Education issued the Notice on Uploading Student Information of the First Batch of "Micro-Majors" in the Repository (Jiaojiuyesihan [2025] No. 23). The "Public Health and Preventive Medicine" micro-major led by Professor Xu Jin from the Medical Department was successfully selected after strict evaluation. It has become the first micro-major of the university to be included in the first batch of the Ministry of Education’s repository, and the relevant information has been filed on the China Higher Education Student Information Network (CHSI).

In April 2025, the Ministry of Education launched the "Double-Thousand Plan" micro-major construction initiative, aiming to promote the establishment of 1,000 micro-majors across the country. This initiative is focused on advancing the alignment between the supply and demand of talent cultivation in higher education, helping students address shortcomings in their knowledge and skill structures, assisting graduates in rapidly enhancing their employability, and facilitating high-quality and full employment.

The "Public Health and Preventive Medicine" micro-major was launched in Kuqa City in the summer of 2023. The first batch enrolled 65 trainees from central and western regions, including those from Yulin University, Changzhi Medical College, and the Kuqa Center for Disease Control and Prevention. Through the MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) platform, these trainees overcame geographical barriers, systematically studied the theoretical knowledge of public health and preventive medicine, and continuously refined their professional skills in practice. At present, 36 trainees from the first phase of this micro-major have completed one year of study, passed the assessment, and finally obtained the micro-major certificate. The micro-major has effectively contributed to the cultivation of high-level public health talents in central and western regions, fully demonstrating the team’s sense of social responsibility and the concept of balanced educational development.

This selection into the first batch of the Ministry of Education’s repository projects is not only an authoritative recognition of the micro-major’s talent cultivation quality, but also enables students to obtain academic certification endorsement at the national level, significantly enhancing their employability. In the next step, taking this inclusion in the repository as an opportunity, the construction of the micro-major will be further deepened: on the one hand, efforts will be made to continue the "westward expansion" of the micro-major, attracting more trainees from central and western regions to join the program; on the other hand, the curriculum modules will be optimized and intelligent transformation of courses will be completed. The micro-major will continue to cultivate and deliver interdisciplinary talents with "solid foundations, comprehensive skills, and innovative thinking" for the public health cause, contributing to the realization of "Healthy China".
